Cologne, 11 July 2024 – The sustainability and ESG team at IR.on AG has advised the SSI SCHAEFER Group, a leading global provider of modular storage and logistics systems, on conducting its first materiality analysis in accordance with the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS).
With the introduction of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), companies are required to publish non-financial KPIs in accordance with the new ESRS, focussing on material topics. This required the SSI SCHAEFER Group to carry out a comprehensive materiality analysis in preparation for CSRD reporting in various project steps, including the involvement of all relevant stakeholders and validation by SSI SCHAEFER's management.
To identify sustainability aspects for the subsequent assessment, the IR.on consulting team conducted a peer group analysis as well as interviews with various specialist functions. This included explicitly inquiring which stakeholders there are in the SSI SCHAEFER Group's environment, how they are interacted with and what their expectations are.
The results of the analysis phase were used to create a "longlist" of actual and potential positive and negative impacts, risks and opportunities.
After a comprehensive consolidation of the list, the sustainability aspects were evaluated in workshops with a range of specialists and managers. Subsequently, appropriate materiality thresholds were defined in collaboration with the Global Head of Group Social Responsibility and the Head of Finance, after which the rationale behind the choice of thresholds for the auditor's review was clearly documented. After applying the materiality thresholds, it was determined which sustainability aspects are relevant for the SSI SCHAEFER Group.
The results of this materiality analysis serve as a basis and guideline for future non-financial reporting. By working closely with IR.on AG, SSI SCHAEFER was able to ensure that the process complies with regulatory requirements and fulfils stakeholder expectations. In addition, the Global Head of Group Social Responsibility validated the procedure with the auditors.
