Cologne, 4 July 2023 - The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive - CSRD for short - is on everyone's lips. The directive on sustainability reporting developed at EU level already came into force in January 2023. For the majority of companies, the CSRD will be mandatory from fiscal year 2025, and in some cases already from fiscal year 2024 - as is the case for the majority of our customers.
However, the new directive not only expands the circle of users, but also increases the content requirements for sustainability reporting. In the course of the CSRD, the new European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) will also come into force and their application will be mandatory. Their fulfillment poses major challenges for companies, particularly with regard to comprehensive data collection.
In our dialogs with customers, questions kept coming up: What requirements does the EU place on us as a company? What is it about the CSRD and the ESRS? What is it about the mandatory materiality analysis? What processes, structures and resources do I need internally? And most importantly, what are the concrete steps I need to take as a company and when do I need to start at the latest?
We addressed these questions last Thursday, 29 June 2023, in the ESG webinar specially developed for our customers and partners. Titled "Taking a practical approach to CSRD", Anna-Lena Mayer (Head of Sustainability & ESG at IR.on) and Michael Werner (Strategic Advisor to the Sustainability & ESG Business Unit at IR.on) provided an overview of stakeholder and regulatory requirements, the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS). The webinar focused on the implementation of CSRD and ESRS in practice. In addition to a roadmap to the first report according to the CSRD, the materiality analysis according to the new methodology, the structure of a data collection as well as the success factors for the reporting process were covered.
