Insights from practice: Why the Hahn Group is leading the way in ESG reporting

2025/03/26

The Hahn Group has been successfully active as an asset and investment manager in the real estate sector since 1982. The group's services include the management of supply-oriented retail and mixed-use properties along the entire value chain. In preparation for CSRD reporting, the Hahn Group commissioned iron AG to conduct a materiality assessment and gap analysis and to create the conditions for reporting in accordance with the EU taxonomy.

Read more about the background and significance of sustainability at the Hahn Group in our interview with Sustainability Officer Jan Groos.

Team iron: "Why is sustainability so important to the Hahn Group?"

Jan Groos: "Sustainability is an integral part of our corporate strategy and therefore a key factor that is applied and taken into account at all stages of the value chain within the company. We at the Hahn Group recognise both the challenges this entails and the potential opportunities that can be derived and exploited for us as a company. Sustainable management and action require increased flexibility and more efficient processes in order to strengthen competitiveness in a dynamic market environment. Consequently, the consistent and ongoing integration of sustainability criteria into our business activities and risk management is a complex but necessary step in our development."

Team iron: "Conducting a materiality assessment and gap analysis presents a number of challenges, but also opportunities. How has your group of companies benefited from our approach?"

Jan Groos: "The intensive strategic examination of our business activities against the backdrop of the CSRD and as part of the materiality assessment helped us to gain new perspectives and identify gaps and new solutions that will help us as a company to meet the requirements of regulators, our investors, employees, and the public, as well as meeting the expectations of other stakeholders and the capital market in terms of increased resilience and long-term value retention of the investments made."

Team iron: "How do you assess the significance and benefits of the preparatory measures taken for CSRD and EU taxonomy against the backdrop of the European Commission's recently published proposal for the omnibus regulation?"

Jan Groos: "The preparatory measures we have taken are beneficial to us in several ways, regardless of the further consultation process. On the one hand, the findings and identified priorities from the materiality assessment and gap analysis help us with our internal development and the alignment of our sustainability strategy. Secondly, we can use them as a basis for optimising our sustainability reporting and communication with our stakeholders."

Team iron: "We would like to thank the Hahn Group for the trust they have placed in us and for the successful cooperation."
