As part of its preparations for CSRD reporting, Zürn Landtechnik GmbH commissioned iron AG to conduct a one-day ESG workshop on materiality assessments with Managing Director Rolf Zürn and representatives from the sustainability, finance and human resources departments, among others. In this short interview, you can read about the background to sustainability at Zürn Landtechnik GmbH and how the company benefited from the iron AG workshop.

Question: "Why is sustainability so important to Zürn Landtechnik GmbH?"
Answer (Rolf Zürn): "Sustainability is of central importance to our company because, as a family business that has been working in and with agriculture for four generations, we want to take responsibility for future generations. Agriculture in particular contributes to the preservation of our natural resources, and we see it as our duty to actively manage our significant impact on people and the environment while at the same time supporting our customers as a reliable partner."
Question: "Conducting an ESG workshop on materiality assessments allows companies to better plan and assess the scope of CSRD reporting. How has your company specifically benefited from our approach?"
Answer (Rolf Zürn): "As part of the ESG workshop, we at Zürn Landtechnik GmbH were able to gain a comprehensive understanding of the approach to materiality assessments. The clear explanation of the methodology and the answers to our questions gave us a solid foundation for tackling the process internally in a targeted manner. This is against the backdrop that our human resources outside of our operational business are limited, as is the case in most medium-sized companies. The structured approach and experience of the consultants at team iron helped us to better understand the requirements of the CSRD and to take the first steps in planning our reporting and identifying relevant topics."
"We were particularly impressed by the consultants' thorough preparation, as they had already familiarised themselves with industry-specific matters."
Question: "What advantages do you see in addressing the CSRD at an early stage?"
Answer (Rolf Zürn): "For us at Zürn Landtechnik, addressing the CSRD early on is crucial for the timely preparation of an audit-proof report in 2026, as it allows us to better assess the considerable effort involved in sustainability reporting. I believe that many companies underestimate the scope and complexity of the requirements. Thanks to the materiality assessment workshop, we now have a better understanding of the increased data requirements. At the same time, we now have the opportunity to gradually integrate sustainability matters into our corporate strategy, thereby realising potential for improvement within our own company and informing our customers and the public about this in the future."
We would like to thank Zürn Landtechnik GmbH for the trust they have placed in us and for the successful cooperation. We are also happy to support other companies with workshops and the preparation of materiality assessments.
